Rubinar 500 mm F/D 5.6 Tele Lens

I just love this tele lens. It is built by Lytkarino Optical Glass Factory in Russia (LZOS). It has all the optical qualities common to most Russian telescopes, it simply is excellent, and mechanically, it looks like it is built to withstand a nuclear hit. Its optical formula seems to be of Maksutov origin, with a very thick corrector plate, which unlike Maksutov, supports a secondary mirror cell. It also has a correcting lens at the business end. It produces pinpoint sharp images and flat field accross the entire Atik11000-CM sensor. I bought it for only 320 Euros, so it is way cheaper than an equivalent sized refractor. The only inconvenience to the Rubinar is that it is touchy to achieve perfect focus, as focus is adjusted by turning the ring with the rubber grip which can be quite stiff. On the positive side, There is absolutely no vignetting in the big Atik Sensor’s corners, even using the M42/1mm native Russian threads to Atik M54 threads Crossover. You can see pictures taken with it in the deepsky image gallery. photo-080
